Spring Garden and Romania
Art In All of Us
School Age 2 Classroom has been selected to a part of the 2010-2011 Edition of the Art Pen Pal Program. The students will be paired with students in the Aron Densusianu School, Hateg, Romania!
This year’s theme is “Manifest your care for Mother Earth”. Environment and sustainable development is the main challenge humanity is facing today. This challenge is also to be met from a mobility perspective.
The objective of the AiA Art Pen Pal Program is to promote artistic and creative communication among children from all parts of the globe. Schools from the around the world are paired and exchange informative artwork on their own country and culture.
Through these exchanges, AiA hopes to make the children aware of the world in which they live in, by providing the opportunity and tools required to communicate directly and creatively with children from foreign countries. Participating schools are paired and asked to develop artwork based on a specific subject, suggested by AiA. Once the pieces are complete, both schools will send a package to one another, containing their finished work. AiA also sends list of evaluation questions to each school, where each teacher is asked to answer them with their students and then send them back to AiA. The aim of the questions is to evaluate the impact the exchanges had on the students; as well as to encourage them to think about the artwork they have received, and what they learned about another culture through the artwork they received from their Pen Pal school. Participation in the AiA Pen Pal Program is complementary to the academic programs of the following classes: Art Education, Cultural and Community Service, Geography, and Foreign Language in some cases (where the paired schools communicate in a language different from their primary educational language).
Communication between paired schools is done through
Teachers: communication is done by e-mail. The teachers in charge of the Art Pen Pal Program in each pair of schools communicate directly with one another, and agree on the timeframe to prepare and send the artwork. They also communicate and exchange/ask the questions their students have on their art pal country or school.
Students: communication is done through pieces of artwork which is then collected by their teacher who passes along the Pen Pal packages to the participating school.
